Words of Water
A collective of artists called Forces of Nature hosted a gathering in Oare Gunpowder Works Country Park, Faversham, Kent on 15 March 2025.
A creative writing workshop inspired by the various bodies of water at Oare Gunpowder Works, Faversham. We explored the language used around describing various surrounding bodies of water: their uses, sounds, movements and ceremonies/rituals of water. Through the application of a variety of writing skills such as poetry, letters and short stories we engaged with different locations in the park to write. These written texts were folded into paper boats, which were set to float in the nearby leat while we watched them drift away. It was a great opportunity to meet new people, make friends, share ideas and let our imagination flow. We learnt some origami, the history of the site and the importance of the surrounding bodies of water.
